Setting Fire (Works) in the Rain
Last weekend, after enjoying the Ghostbusters 2016 reboot movie (Pretty entertaining I must say, shame to the trailers for making it look bad) in the morning at a local cinema without my usual companion (He had to abandon the movie in favour of bringing his sick son to a doctor; Apparently after diagnosis later the day the little one got some throat infection), I’ve spent several hours back my den resting in preparation of the hectic evening ahead.
Yes, it’s that time of the year again to visit the Bon Odori Matsuri held at the Esplanade on my island. =w=
Arriving a couple of hours earlier in order to avoid heavy traffic, I’ve instead paid a visit to a Theme Cafe located just close-by, as there’s an Anime Cosplay Gathering happened since the morning on the same day.
Never actually enter this Toys Café before since its opening years back, I’m extremely curious of what decorates the interior of this café, while showing up my face and mingle with the attendees of the gathering…
An Art of Transformation
In an effort to combat the growing uneasiness and worries surrounding the country’s political and economical drama, the State Government sanctioned an outdoor exhibition, featuring the ever popular Transformers, much to the delight and scorn from those supporting the opposition of the current State Government of the locals and tourists alike.
Killing two birds with one stone, I’ve taken the opportunity to pay a visit to the exhibition as I enjoyed my Bon Odori Matsuri two weeks back, since both situated just side by side within the same, immediate area. =w=
Dance in the Fire (Works)
Departing a couple of hours before the official initiation of the Bon Odori Matsuri last weekend in order to secure a good parking spot for my ride, I’ve reached the site already full of early birds scattered all around the venue.
Various erected canopies await the visiting throng for the evening!
Also held within the same area is the Transformers Street Art event (Of which you may see some Autobot/Decepticon logos and/or Bumblebee/Optimus Prime statues cameo in the following photos), which I’ll cover in my next post…

Braving through the hazy heat of all-year-long mid-summer last weekend, I rushed towards the site as soon as I got myself ready after my RL job. Oh yes, it’s Bon Odori Matsuri once again!
There was another event at another part of the island, a cosplay event featuring guest appearance of Aza Miyuko (An ex-member of Spiral Cats and a cosplay guest during AFAMY12), which sadly fell around the same time period as Bon Odori. I was an invitee of Konatsu, a local ACG group full of like-minded folks and similarly enthusiastic comrades, to join them at their picnic site under a designated canopy given to them by the organisers since many of them are part of the dance performance for the day.
It was the mid of the a hot day when I reached my destination. Only a few early Konatsu birds were already there, chatting and hammering away their sumafo playing Love Live! School Idol Festival. XDc
タマちゃんのお祭り
Due to a friend’s (Of college years) wedding dinner falling on the same day, I was denied my chance to attend the Bon Odori event last year.
Not so this time around, as I’ve made sure I’m free this year to join the matsuri, alongside Tama-chan of course. :Dc
Last weekend, we’ve arrived at the site at an earlier time to avoid the incoming massive throng of curious visitors. Took Tama-chan for a little walk along the coast.
Yes. The Bon Odori Matsuri is held at Padang Kota aka Old Gurney Drive, a coastal area with ship and ferry docks nearby and just passed the Banking area.
