Dance in the Fire (Works)
Departing a couple of hours before the official initiation of the Bon Odori Matsuri last weekend in order to secure a good parking spot for my ride, I’ve reached the site already full of early birds scattered all around the venue.
Various erected canopies await the visiting throng for the evening!
Also held within the same area is the Transformers Street Art event (Of which you may see some Autobot/Decepticon logos and/or Bumblebee/Optimus Prime statues cameo in the following photos), which I’ll cover in my next post…
The main stage for the incoming dance performances, fenced off along with a small platform reserved for VIPs and the organisers since the usual area has been taken over by the statues as mentioned above…
Preparations are under-way as I strolled around examining the site.
Rehearsals and warming-ups are performed as curious early birds flocked around for a glimpse. www
As with previous years, I was an invitee of Konatsu, a circle of like-minded comrades who’ll also perform on stage later the night.
This year they’ll dance with their costumes! =w= Here are some shots of them suiting up for the main event.
As per annually, the Konatsu having a picnic prior to the start of the event, indulging in various delicacies sponsored by the attendees.
Unfortunately, just some time before the start of the Matsuri, a storm of drizzle briefly engulfing the venue.
Yet, it failed to stop the eager crowd from steadily pouring (Excuse the pun) to the site as the opening hour draws near.
It’s finally happening, Bon Odori Matsuri!
The island’s Chief Minister gave his speech to officiate the beginning of the night full of laughter and fun as the crowd stops by, stay a while and listen. :3
Lots of the attendees in Yukata having picnics all over the field too!
Many of them are locals of Japanese heritage!
Didn’t spend much time awkwardly asking random strangers in Yukata for close shots, but I did captured a couple (Not really strangers, I know these two: Cosplayers Miwako and Akagitsune) and a very cute rori into my lens. XDc
Humans aren’t the only visitors of the Matsuri… ^_~
Discounting the sentient mechanical beings standing watch over the field elsewhere, quite a number of musume and musuko of various sizes paid a visit to the Konatsu’s too.
Tama-chan finally have friends this year as she was kinda alone the previous year…
The proud parents of these musume and musuko throughout the evening, mingling and associating with one another discussing about their lovelies. ^~^
As usual, at the other end of the site, various random canopies housed game (Obake Yashiki, Kingyou Sukui, Yo-Yo Sukui, etc…) and food stalls along the side of the field and the street.
As the night draws closer, the Matsuri is getting more and more exciting with the dance performances in progress and the crowd joining in the fun.
Ending the Matsuri with a ton of bangs, the Hanabi finally erupted with colourful displays of explosive lights.
Luckily I managed to capture many with my camera.
I did recorded the whole Hanabi sequence but it’s a pity I made some adjustment errors, resulting in a blurry, out of focus mess, thus a lack of video posted here… :/
The thick smoke of the very aftermath screened the nearby building… 0_0
An enjoyable night for me and the rest of the visitors. www
The travel back home however is not, due to massive traffic jam afterwards. ^^;
