If you’re asking me about Knock-Offs of Transformers toys a year back, I may have just laughed you off and disgusted at the words even mentioned.
Up until now, KOs are as always, lower quality copies of the original, usually made from cheaper and more fragile materials. However with the rise of Wei Jiang, my stance on KOs have been slightly changed.
I’m not here to debate the morality of buying KOs rather than the original, just read Optimus’s quote which is also the title of this post. =w=
Wei Jiang’s MPP-10 Deformation Era (Interestingly, seems to be an alternate way to spell OPTIMUS PRIME…), as hinted by its name, is basically a KO of Takara Tomy’s MP-10 Optimus Prime, minus the trailer. I’ve preordered it during New Year’s Eve last year, but due to high demand and low stock, only received it earlier last month.
It seems the box art I got are from the 1st release design, with a stylised artwork of Optimus himself that looks nothing like the product itself, subsequent runs actually have the product shot as the box art instead.
Nevertheless, the over all package seems pretty premium and closely resembles that of the official Transformers Masterpiece line, full with Chinese explanations of various product shots decorated a majority of the rear side of the box.
Continuing on from the last entry, let’s have a look at
Grimlock’s Wrath’s alternate mode.
Grimlock Wrath smash! Me Grimlock Wrath transforms! Me Grimlock Wrath KING!」
Seven years back, Takara Tomy’s official Transformers Masterpiece MP-08 Grimlock was released. It was quite a marvel at the time, a Transformer figure that converts into the classic Tyrannosaurus Rex mode and back to robot mode again. I’ve meant to get it back then (A big fan of dinosaurs AND Transformers) but due to the lack of budget at the time, I had to give up.
And it happened again during the reissue two years back, due to unstable forex (Which slowly but surely killing the currency in my country, even now…) and the bloating of the price. :/ Secondary markets like eBay still have Grimlock on sale, but at almost twice the original price nowadays…
Thankfully, it is the renaissance of Third Party Transformers figures for the past half a decade since the introduction of the ultimate 3rd party Not-Devastator called Hercules (6-in-1 Not-Constructicons) by TFC. Many companies have since been churning out their own versions of various Transformers (Including Grimlock), many of them do look significantly more magnificent than the original ones from Takara Tomy or Hasbro!
G-Studio (AKA G-Creation)’s Combiners Legend Shuraking SRK-03 Wrath is one of such prized Not-Grimlock, released earlier this year.
Packed in a metallic bling bling UV layered printed package,
Grimlock Wrath is the third in line of a total of five Dinobot combiners, which like their name suggested, will be able to form the gigantic Shuraking when combined. The package itself shows Wrath’s triple changer forms: The Robot Mode, the Dinosaur Mode and the Combination Mode.
I’ll skip the Combination Mode in this review since my primary aim is to (Finally!) own this Transformers Masterpiece sized Not-Grimlock, not to collect and complete the Shuraking mode.
While everyone’s been busying themselves over Comiket (C87) and CosHolic in Japan or Comic Fiesta 2014 in Malaysia, I’ve spent my weekend fiddling with my newly bought Volkswagen… w
Designated MP-21, Bumble AKA Bumblebee has finally saw his transformation into the Transformers Masterpiece line.
Although a fan favourite since his appearance back in the 80’s, it seems that his lateness into the Masterpiece line was due to Takara Tomy’s difficulty in obtaining permission from Volkswagen, due to Bumble’s vehicle mode being based upon their automobile’s design.
As quoted above on the post title, I really didn’t expect myself getting this figure at all.
Re-released as a complement to Michael Bay’s latest movie Transformers: Age of Extinction (Known as Lost Age in Japan), the Voyager Class AD-12 Revenge Optimus Prime is based upon its appearance in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2nd movie in the Movieverse), having nothing to do with the latest movie at all… ^^;
Albeit too complicated in design, I’m fascinated with the over all feel of the original Movieverse Optimus Prime ever since I saw the 1st movie, but the only good-looking figures of him are a rarity nowadays.
As mentioned, I never intend to acquire this one at all, instead I’ve placed my attention to Voyager Class AD-02 Classic Optimus Prime which is featured on the early parts of the latest movie: Movieverse Optimus Prime Robot Mode with a classic G1 Vehicle Mode.
I’ve pre-ordered AD-02 from a local store called Toon Shoppe along with a third-party mod parts set for my Fall of Cybertron Grimlock, but so far I’ve never hear any news from the store.
When asked after a couple of months of official release date of AD-02, the owner uncle of the store told me I can get a refund if I could no longer wait (Which I did) but he threw in another surprise at me when I finally pay a visit a few weeks later (I paid a visit one week prior but his shop had already closed for the day by the time I reached it).
I’ll definitely black list this uncle’s store from now on after I got the PO’d stuff since according to him I’ll give up my deposits if I cancel them, spitting all sorts of mumbo-jumbo excuses such as the local distributor being Hasbro, their Takara Tomy stocks will always be behind schedule from official release dates, blah blah blah…
