Standing by the hill-side gazing over the Cool Culture of Otakuism!

Till All Are One with the Dark Side

After surviving the bombardments of comrade mGlacius and Crimotaku‘s joint military exercise, I’ve finally surrendered my will and grabbed myself the one true holy crown of my childhood yume, a Transformers Masterpiece Convoy (Optimus Prime to the West) Black ver. by Takara Tomy!

MP Convoy Black is actually a limited release of the very same mould used on the 1st MP Convoy (In its original red-blue colour scheme) from half a decade ago, with the Japanese version bundled with an e-Hobby exclusive comic book while the Hong Kong version bundled with a die-cast name plate…

The one I got is actually from eBay with a fraction of its original price sans any of the extras mentioned… Quite a bargain I say as it only costs me about 7,991 (LOL The number of my previous car licence plate… Coincidence? ^^;) yen including shipping as contrast to its original price which is about 12,000 yen!!! :Dc

Obligatory box shots… The first thing I noticed when I pick up this beast is the very heaviness of the danbooru! Didn’t expect it to be this solid in weight! ^^;

The front side features Convoy Black as the centre attraction (Obviously!) with his vehicle mode by his calves in a simple design while the back is littered with various information and features you can expect from those standard figurine packaging design…

A smaller image of Convoy Black and warning labels, legal stuffs and such are printed on the top and bottom portion of the danbooru respectively…

The wordings Transformers Masterpiece are hot-stamped onto each sides of the danbooru to create a silver bling bling finish that brings out the appeal of this rather simpleton box design… ^,^

Within the danbooru is another layer of  danbooru which is actually a paper craft (More like cardboard craft… XDc) container of which you can assemble to form a trailer for your Convoy Black…

Assembly instructions are printed onto various sides of the paper craft which you’ll need to detach from the actual paper craft itself…

Assembly of this container is pretty straight forward thus you can install it onto your Convoy Black in no time… A couple of small connectors are provided to let you hook the container onto Convoy Black…

Being a paper craft and all, of course it looks rather silly when displayed! XDc

Behold the glory that is the black truck of Cybertron (Autobots; Decepticons are known as Destron to the Japanese…)!

As a repaint of the original Convoy, I do think this colour scheme much more suitable to this type of a vehicle than the bright red-blue hue of the former…

A slight note, all black versions of Convoy of various generations are known as Nemesis Prime thus henceforth Convoy Black will be referred to as Nemi-kun for the rest of this post…

The Transformers Masterpiece line is pretty much equivalent to a Gunpla’s Perfect Grade, so expect lotsa gimmicks and details!

Shots of Nemi-kun in its Vehicle Mode are provided below to feast your eyes upon its beauty!

Various details are applied faithfully to its real life counterpart, including the tyre marks on the wheels and their suspension spring gimmick!

Time to transform and roll out!

*Mechanical whirl*

Kuewqookookoo!!

A view at Nemi-kun at various angles… Faithfully sculpted to be anime accurate!

Its upper body and both calves are made from heavy die-cast metal pieces, thus the awesome weight that sometimes hinders its overall stability… ^^;

Now let’s look at Nemi-kun’s various articulations and features…

Its head is secured onto the body via a single ball peg which looks dangerously vulnerable to excess force… I’ll have to be careful with my power output now… ^^; On the good point tho, this allows a generous movement around the neck itself…

While there’s no light-up eyes gimmick on this Masterpiece, Nemi-kun’s eyes are layered with a silver finish behind those ruby clear eyes, creating a rather sparkly bling when light source is directed towards its eyes… ^_^

Nemi-kun’s mouth piece is fitted with a gimmick, which you can access by pressing a button behind its head, moving the mouth piece up and down as if it’s talking… Just like in the anime! @_@

Articulations around the arms are quite competent, as a slide-out mechanism on the shoulder to allow wider range of movements on the said place… The same cannot be said for the elbows… As you can see here, you can only manage a 90 degrees range of movement there…

Note the damage marks on the arm… It is part of the mould, not my doing! XDc What? :3c

That aside, several connected piston gimmicks can be seen on the elbows, a pretty nice feature IMHO…

The fingers on Nemi-kun are articulated!!! This a huge plus as most Transformers figures are usually fitted with a closed fist hand unit types with a peg hole for arms installation… XDc

There’s also a connecting pistons movement between the forearm and the hand unit as well…

A small flip-out communicator with a screen displaying Rodimus (Prime) and Convoy (!!) on the other side of the comm-link located on the left and right forearms respectively…

Just like Gunpla, Nemi-kun has skirt armours that can be lifted to allow wider range of movements on the hips!

Unlike the arms tho, Nemi-kun’s legs can bend at almost 180 degrees with its awesome display of pistons and joints within the knees!!! 0_0

Seiza is possible with such movement allowance!

Just above the feet, located at the front portion of the calves are a series of exhaust vent panels that can be opened via a linked gimmick when you press the calves against the feet…

On the rear side, you can see joint movements of the pistons connecting the calves and the feet when you adjust the feet around…

Circular rotation around the abdomen-waist is perhaps the only articulated point of Nemi-kun’s whole body sans limbs and head… ^^;

Normal leg-splitting is possible for Nemi-kun…

Side splitting is AOK as well… :Dc

Nemi-kun does have a light-up gimmick, located within its chest…

Opening up the chest windows reveals the hidden chamber for the Matrix of Leadership… The light-up gimmick is activated via a protruding push button located on the right-rear side of where Nemi-kun’s head is located…

The Matrix can be removed from its resting place as well… You can clearly see the LED underneath where the Matrix once were…

Sliding gimmick on the Matrix allows you to recreate the famous final scene (Till All are One) from 1986′s Transformers The Movie when Hot Rod releases the energy within the Matrix to defeat Unicron, evolving itself into Rodimus Prime in the process… ^_^ Ahh such nostalgia…

Nemi-kun comes with a trio of weaponry…

The first being its standard Laser Rifle… More like a Blaster Cannon to me… ^^; Very much like its silver colour scheme, a contrast to its black overall…

The second being an Energy Axe, which you have to secure onto Nemi-kun’s forearm after concealing its hand… It’s quite a tight fit so I probably won’t use it ever again to avoid damaging my precioussssss… >:3c

Finally there’s a strange one called the Megatron Gun… This is actually Megatron transformed into its Custom Walther P38 form utilised by Starscream during the Destron’s attack on a Cybertronian shuttle in the Movie… Feels a bit awkward to be included together with MP Convoy, which should have been included with MP Starsrceam instead (Released sometime later after MP Convoy with Trailer)… ^^;

The handle of Megatron Gun is too short for Nemi-kun to grasp, thus the handle has a sliding mechanism to allow it to be lengthened for use with Nemi-kun’s bulky hand… Bits of parts (Scope, extended barrel and stabiliser piece) can be removed from Megatron Gun to reveal the original Walther P38 within…

To show you how enormous Nemi-kun is, hereby I had it stand beside PG Red Frame…

Almost the same height, which is about 1′ (30 cm) in total…

Omake time! Duel of the Fates between the two behemoths of my family!

PG Red Frame uses Darth Vader’s ChopSabre I got from yesteryear while Nemi-kun utilised Darth Maul’s dual bladed ChopSabre I got from some moons ago… Xdc

Nemi-kun is a force to be reckoned with! ~_^

Nemi-kun takes a fancy to Black Rock Shooter-chan due to their similar hue! Xdc

Soon an inseparable bond between Girl and Machine is formed! Here comes the Army of Darkness to terrorise the Sisterly Love girls! XDc
