A Sengoku Master Bushi Led Astray

Gunpla Expo World Tour Japan 2013 is now on-going (21st – 24th of November) and with it comes the news on various upcoming and future projects on them Gunpla. w

MG_Sengoku_Astray_01

While there are many prototypes and announcements being made, my eyes are currently fixed upon the new 2014 lines of Master Grade kits of the latest series Gundam Build Fighters’ gunpla form.^_~

It’s no surprise the protag’s main gunpla units, the Build Strike Gundam and Build Gundam Mk II, received an MG kit since their base body MG Strike Gundam and MG Gundam Mk II already have a Version 2.0 mould.

A Sengoku Bushi Led Astray

It’s been ages since I last touch a Gunpla. It was about two years ago to be exact, when I last build my own mecha model kits—oh wait I built a Kotobukiya’s Metal Gear Ray (Of Metal Gear Solid fame) earlier this year which I never get around to do a proper photo shoot… orz

Gundam_Build_Fighters

Anyway, a new upcoming Gundam anime series will be on air very, very soon. Gundam Build Fighters is an expansion to the OVA Gunpla Builders Beginning G from years ago, which is a cross between the Plamo hobby and Angelic Layer. ^_~

Of course Bandai spares no time to quickly convert them mecha design into Gunpla form. Amongst the many unique and incredible customs from the show, one of them in particular caught my eyes.

タマちゃんの究極進化、可も?

Ever since the night before the Dragon Day, Tama-chan has barely been genki following the passing Moons, lying in a state of utmost inactivity lethargy.

Don’t be alarmed tho Tama-chan’s not in harm’s way, actually her Master was in the midst of readying her for several minor operations to further enhance her aesthetics. ^_~

For this grand project, many acquisitions were made from the passing Moons, most notably from Taobao (A Chinese equivalent of evilBay/Yahoo! Japan Auctions) by using a proxy service called My Parcel Store

Amongst the materials acquired are: Volks Shapely L Bust, Wersaze Wrist Joint, Wersaze Yawashiri, Cool Cat Fortified Aluminium Alloy Neck JointMiruya Wig and Moe-Castle’s Miko Outfit (Not shown here).

Aka no Bushiroad

Busy schedule hindered my progress of Red Frame Kai, but alas I’ve finally completed it… Thanks to that tho, Sisterly Love 4koma will have to postpone again… >,<

A thousand apologies to those waiting and anticipating the 4koma… I’ll resume the FigNendo madness at later time… ^_~

Red Frame Kai’s Tactical Arms II L is basically an exact copy of Blue Frame 2nd Revise’s Tactical Arms II, albeit with a few differences here and there…

Flight Form ala Blue Frame 2nd Revise… ^_^

A comparison of Tactical Arms II L with Tactical Arms II…

As former uses the very same runners as the latter, excess parts allow you to recreate the former into the image of the latter… ^^;

Ara~!? Red Frame Kai uses Tactical Arms II…?

However, Tactical Arms II L is still much more badass with the new parts… ^_^

The new parts sorta look like those super bike buffed-up engines and hydraulics… XD

Stated in the manual, Red Frame Kai can use its Tactical Arms II L in different forms depending on the situation…

In Work Form, the handle of the Tactical Arms II L becomes a Beam Torch while the rest becomes a giant manipulator… Being a Junker that deals with repairs and salvage all the time, Lowe could really use this form for all his operations… XD

Delta Form, a direct port from Stargazer x Delta Astray… >,<

According to the manual, in this form Red Frame will be able to use Voiture Lumiere, a solar powered propulsion system, for interplanetary travelling… 0_0

The default V Form…

Conversion/Transformation to other forms are easier to achieve in this form, at least that’s what the manual suggests… ^^;

Bow Form, a variation of Arrow Form… Sez me… XD

Holding a bow horizontally looks much cooler don’t you agree?

The official Arrow Form…

Archery utilised on Mobile Suits… That’s a rarity… :Dc

The default Flight Form…

Closely resembles on how Infinity Justice handles its Flight Pack…

Glide Form… :P My idea of how a Flight Pack should work…

Tactical Arms II L looks like a soaring bird… 0_0 Bird Mode anyone? XD

Wave Rider Form…

Because Blue Frame 2nd Revise have already did the sword surfing thingie… XD

Bushi Form…  Returning to the roots of its base design, the Samurai warrior… XD

The use of Sword Arms as shoulder fins kinda resembles the likes of Evangelion units… :D

Sword Arms… Because Gerbera Straight and Tiger Pierce are not enough… XD

No beam effect parts included tho, but you can use the ones from Blue Frame 2nd Revise… ^_~

Shinkuu~~ Shoryuuke—n!!!

Inspired by Ken Masters of Street Fighter fame… Incidentally he wears red as well! XD

Claw Form… XD You wouldn’t want to be embraced by the end of each of the sharpen tips… *_*

Idea totally copied from Nod’s Engineer design in the recently released Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight…

There are more absurd ways you can imagine on how to utilise the Tactical Arms II L but I’ll stop right here… Try create some of your own like a Crossbow Launcher Form or something! XDc

Anyways, applying the clear parts included to see how they turn out visually… ^_^

The clear parts only cover the pelvic area along with the thighs, hands and abdomen…

Looks surprisingly eye-pleasing to me… ^_^ I think I’ll keep the clear parts on Red Frame Kai from now on… :3c

Still, it’ll be rather nice if only Bandai would include clear parts for one whole arm and leg at least… ^^;

And the review draws to a close…

Before parting ways, here’s an omake: Mobile Sentai, Astranger!!! :<

As with Blue Frame 2nd Revise, all the perks and flaws can be found on Red Frame Kai as well…

Loose parts here and there detected on the V Fin and the Saya holder on both thighs as well as no golden coated parts for the Gerbera Straight x Tiger Pierce had me in despair… >,< No original Beam Sabre Backpack included and a weakly detailed feet design further dragging down the score on this kit… ^^;

Yet, this kit is my fave rite now because it’s ASTRAY RED FRAME! :3c

Frame Dyed in Rouge

Red Frame, my most favourite MS design in the Gundam Universe, is the only one of its Gunpla version I don’t mind buying four times over… ^_~ In my armoury, I already possessed a couple of 1/100 Red Frames (Of one already being customised into Pink Frame…), a 1/60 PG Red Frame with Special Clear Set, and finally the recent addition 1/100 MG Red Frame Kai…

A sense of déjà vu pierced thru my very thought during the process of assembling this kit as the majority (Almost all to be exact… ^^;) of its runners are duplicates from Blue Frame 2nd Revise’s released last year…

On the other hand, panel lining the frames are quite tedious as well, which took me well over a week of ons and offs just to get the main body completed… 0_0 As such, I had to postpone once again my Sisterly Love 4koma for the week… ^^;

The extra clear runner that is included together with the kit in conjunction with the Clear Campaign promotion…

Unlike the clear parts of MG Victory that replaces all the blue parts of the Gunpla, the ones given for Red Frame Kai are only a partial of all the white outer armour parts, covering only around its abdomen and pelvic area…

Master Kai x SP Grade

Larger piccies of a couple of highly anticipated Master Grades is available for your viewing pleasure… ^_^

Zygnum Warrior

What do you get when you cross Sygnum with Zaku Warrior Live Concert Version? ^_~

I believe a lot of Gunpla comrades had already tried their hands on this kinda modifications before, so I guess I’ll try it too… ^_^

Ever since the arrival of my SAF, her pinkness captivates me, and I was thinking… What if I merge her with my Pink Zaku Warrior? Anyways, I removed Sygnum’s outer jacket and hanging skirt because she looks better this way… Kinda resembles that of a female martial artist of Chinese Wuxia… XD

Astray Pink Frame ver. Gunpla

As my first and perhaps the only time, this particular Gunpla modding project was started about three weeks ago, using Gundam Colour Markers as my main source of painting…  Unfortunately, my amateurish painting ability doesn’t do the Mobile Suit justice, thus I resort to order a trio of spray can which I think necessary in my quest to realise my dream of a custom painted Astray… :3

Unfortunately, due to some sort of regulations, the spray cans I ordered from HLJ cannot be shipped to my island, leaving me can-less for about two weeks… >,< HLJ sure took their sweet time to tell me of the bad news… ^^;

As last resort, I turned to a local art supply store to acquire domestic aerosol sprays cans, which luckily works on the PVC and ABS materials of Gunpla… I was quite worried of the possibility of the liquid from the spray cans might melt my Gunpla… ^^;

I got a trio of them: Pink, Sparkling Red and Tranparent…

Running at three times my normal speed, I managed to finish spray-coating my customised Mobile Suit in a trio of days since Friday night…  :D

Behold the glory of Astray Pink Frame, the guardian and mascot of the Republic of Neo Pro Lacus! :D

A thorough look at the Pink Frame from various angles…

Custom paint job aside, I did a few minor changes upon the base kit which is a 1/100 Astray Red Frame… The first being the signature hairpin of Lacus Clyne… XD

I got the pin from one of my Lacus trading figure, mutilating the hair it attached onto and stick it onto the Mobile Suit’s head using UHU Super Glue. Works perfectly! :3

Kawaii~! XD

I love Red Frame’s exposed back enough that I decided to remove its back pack entirely, a few adjustments here and there and finally fixing the Beam Sabre holders onto the back of the waist…

Some parts had to be cut to give room for the holder units… 0_0

Astray’s original hand units has been replaced with Master Grade Strike Rouge’s, allowing better articulations at the finger joints…

Due to the inclusion of the holder units behind the waist, Pink Frame’s abdomen had to be place at a slight angle from now on, eliminating the articulated point at that place permanently… >,<

Some area has been cleared at the hips joints, allowing wider range of movements… Splitting legs is now possible… ^_^

FYI, all those clear stickers on Pink Frame are procured by salvaging leftovers from various plamo kits, including PG Red Frame and VF-25F Messiah Valkyrie…

Various action poses are posted below… High kick ala the upcoming MG Blue Frame 2nd Revise! =D

Déjà vu!

Actions posing using the Combat Pump Action Shotgun and Magnum Pistol borrowed from my Patlabor plamo… :3

Persona~! =3

Being my virgin plamo modding, I’ll enter this kit in the AFA09 Bandai World Gunpla Competition under the Coolest Freestyle Gunpla category just for fun… X3

Gunpla Boot Camp

This 4koma idea has been playing in my head for quite a while now… Finally I’ve got the time to create it… XD Enjoy!

Meet the Rookies!

A little too exhausted from today’s schedule… Was going to fetch some di:stage but looks like they’re all outta stock… >,<

Had to postpone my upcoming panels…

Sorry to disappoint but no Lily Panels this time… ^^;

In the meanwhile, enjoy yet another teaser… :D

Defining high experience…

Something nice happened to me a couple of days ago after all the complications… I’ve finally procured my dream 32″ Widescreen LCD TV!

While it’s not the Samsung Series 4 I aimed to get earlier (Due to end of stock… the place I went to said there’ll be no more production of Series 4 :( ), this LG 32LH20R-TA is pretty much on the same level, with added Energy saving mode, direct USB support and two HDMI input ports (Which I don’t use as my consoles doesn’t support those…)… ^^; It’s on the same price range as well @ MYR 1579… ^_^ More product specs here

Being pampering myself with this huge screen these couple of days by watching HD/BR quality anime series (Most notably Gundam 00 and Kemeko Deluxe! XD) and playing games on High Definition… :D

Currently obsessed with a PC game called Prototype, a Spider-Man series-styled free roaming pseudo hero action game which took my breath away with intense bloods and gores ala the recent X-Men Origins: Wolverine game as well as carnage fun-filled city free running… And I do mean free running as you can literally run around and along skyscrapers with your bare foot and also glide from buildings with no wings whatsoever!

That aside, I’ve tested the LCD TV with my trio of consoles as well… Xbox 360 runs impressively with the Component input port (Tested with Star Ocean: The Last Hope… Jaw dropping HD graphics!), while Wii runs respectably on a regular AV input port (But huge screen is a humongous plus for rail shooter games, like Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles I’d tested)…

As the LCD TV contains only one AV input port, I had to swap the cables in order to test my PS2. Unfortunately, the graphics on this dated system looks incredibly bad on the huge screen due to pixel-ization (Tested with the bug shooting Ichigeki Sacchu Hoi Hoi san, which lacks the cutesy squeaky footsteps sound from the short OVA… >,<) …

Some piccies of the LCD TV with the denizens of my room.. :D

Never showcase these two before… They’re Kotobukiya’s budget range Mode Lock Plamo mechas from Full Metal Panic! Anime Series, ARX-7 Arbalest and M-9 Gernsback respectively with custom paint job… XD Painting is such a chore for me (Besides… I’m bad at minuscule paintings…) that I’m still keeping my other two Mode Locks – Sky Girl’s Fujin and A4-1 FMP!’s Falke in box… Sky Girl’s Reijin is fully painted but currently resides in another cabinet…

My daughter is weeping because of what happened to her upcoming sister

My Perfect Grade Astray Red Frame tried its best to calm down the weeping princess… :D

Gonna go watch Hayate no Gotoku! Second Season in HD now! XD

Crystal Frame

And it’s done!

OMGoddess … I can’t believe I’ve really gone and took well over a month on and off to finish a GunPla (I usually did one MG or 1/100 in one or a couple of days)… It’s been fun while it lasts, having a great time posing and photographing my prized labour…

Here’s the last review of my PG Red Frame, with Special Custom Set thrown in…

But first, let’s strip the Red Frame to its fleshy nekkid self… XD

Seeing red, aren’t we? XD Red Frame’s inner frames are the exact duplicate of PG Strike’s, those who’ve constructed the last kit will quickly have a déjà vu as they put on this 2009 kit… Not I tho as this is my very first PG kit…

If I’m to put it in words, PG Red Frame consists of three separate layers: The darker red Inner Frame as seen above; The brighter red frame armour pieces, that cover most of those joints; The shining white outer armour, a last coat of brilliance…

Without the restricting armour pieces, Red Frame can really put out an incredible feat of articulated display with its elastic flexibility around the joints…

The delinquent squat made famous by the previous PG kit makes a comeback with Red Frame. Stiffness of movements around the shoulder joints are almost non-existent in this bare naked state…

Martial art moves are easy for the red nudist…

It isn’t possible with all the armour pieces on…

Now let’s have a look at the extra Gerbera Straight look-alike…

Tiger Pierce (The name of the extra piece) is pretty much an exact duplicate of Gerbera Straight, albeit its colour is a little darker, especially the reds. Between the two, I prefer Tiger Pierce’s Tsuka Ito (Handle Wrap) as its transparent body blends with the colour of the Tsuka, creating a much darker almost black hue than the standard dark grey on Gerbera Straight’s Tsuka Ito…

Bling-bling-ness aside, Kotte (The blade of Tiger Pierce) has a slightly dull gold coating when compare to Kiku Hitomoji’s shining silver… Kotte also has a rather irregular Hamon (Blade Pattern) whereas Kiku Hitomoji’s is much more refined…

A second Beam Rifle can be constructed from the leftovers of the runner that holds Tiger Pierce’s Tsuba Ito, but it lacks a vital part that locks the Hand Grip in place – a polycap. To fix this, I used a similar polycap from my collections of excess parts from my earlier GunPla kits and modded it to fit into the Rifle… It works perfectly…

Similar to the primary Rifle, this extra Rifle is meant for right-handed use, thus posing it with Red Frame’s left hand is a little difficult as it just won’t stay in its intended place but ultimately still possible due to the strong grip of the hand unit.

Notice that sensor unit on the Rifle? The primary one is green while the extra is clear in colour…

Now let’s drool at the Perfect Grade Astray Red Frame with all of its Special Custom Set pieces attached…

*wipes saliva*

The see-thru details are astonishing…

I can’t imagine why some people actually dissuaded from getting the 1st release with Special Custom Set on the pretense that they hate clear parts (I’m pointing at you, Ngee Khiong! XD)…

I’ve discovered another flaw in the design of Red Frame…

The twin connector pieces that hold onto the Holder Unit for the swords aren’t strong enough to sustain the weight of the Saya, resulting in constant sag and slide from their intended positions…

Bandai should have include polycaps onto these parts as the result is better, as seen on the strong grip on the hips and knee joints…

The light gimmick doesn’t work well on Red Frame’s semi transparent head, tho… >,<

LOL it’s the Crystal Skull from the latest Indiana Jones movie! XD

A gallery of PG Red Frame… ^_^ Gundam really does look best when posing with swords…

The above pose is based upon Saitou Hajime’s (He is left-handed, too!) Gatostu Ishiki stance from Rurouni Kenshin… :D

Double Japanese Sword wielding Red Frame looks surprisingly intimidating…

Thrusting forward with weapons drawn…

You can really feel the burst of speed there, eventho this is a still shot… ^_^

Too bad the Holder Units are meant to be mounted on the left skirt, eventho I can slightly adjust them to fit on the right… It just doesn’t look right if I do that…I had to put the Saya of the second sword in this way during the posing due to the weight problem I mentioned before. Now this is what I call X Blade (Screw that worthless piece of junk game called Oni Blade / X blade)… -_-

I realised I haven’t pose my Red Frame with its Beam Sabres yet, so here you are… XD

Two Beam Rifles are definitely better than one, tho one will have to be proficient in handling the weapons… :D

This is a summary of my verdict on the PG kit…

Pros

• Size (It’s huge!)
• Details (Thousands of pieces of art… o.0)
• Gerbera Straight x 2
• Beam Rifle x 2
• Rubber foot grip (It really helps in balancing the sheer weight of the kit, preventing accidental sliding…)
• It’s Red Frame!!!

Cons

• Limited range of movements around joints (Especially after applying all the armour pieces)
• Obstructive armour pieces (Most notable the rear thigh armour and armpit pieces)
• Weak grip between parts (to name a few: The chest hood, Beam Sabre holders, abdomen armour pieces, V fin, Holder Unit connectors…)
• Size (LOL I ran out of display space… XD)
• Clear Seal Stickers (I really, really does prefer Dry Transfer Decals…)
• Damaged instruction manual (Had to order a replacement from HLJ, paid 1000 yen just for the shipment… TT_TT)

Thus this ends my photo review… ^_^ Just saw a magnificent mod of 1/100 Red Frame elsewhere, kinda wish there’s a MG version in the future… :D

Look’s like my obsession with Frame Astrays won’t subside anytime soon… :P

The Way of the Sword

Neglecting the construction of Red Frame, a week has passed in a blink of an eye… However, I was side trackeddue to my latest acquisition of another GunPla – 1/100 Astray Blue Frame 2nd L Clear Colour Version! As all of its parts are moulded in semi transparent substance, I’ve decided to shelf my assembly of PG Astray Red Frame for a while and started to construct this minor Frame instead, since I won’t have to bother to panel line the kit which is very time consuming… XD Anyways, I’ve managed to finish the Blue Frame in one sitting, in about 3 hours time…

Now I can rest easy and continue with my long overdue PG kit…

The star of the kit, the Gerbera Straight, lay bare before my awed eyes… Based upon Japanese Sword design, Red Frame’s signature bling-bling armament is truly a sight to behold.

True to its real world counterpart, Kiku Hitomoji, the blade of Gerbera Straight, is secured onto the Tsuka (hilt) with a Mekugi (Locking Peg)…

Specially designed for the PG Red Frame, this Holder Unit grab hold of Gerbera Straight including its Saya (Scabbard) firmly attached by the side skirt of its wielder… The Holder Unit also features a lock that holds onto the Tsuba (Hand Guard), preventing the blade itself from sliding out from its intended resting place.

Various comparisons with other types of blade, which includes the lesser Red Frame’s Gerbera Straight, Blue Frame’s giant Buster Sword and a real life fruit knife… Due to its immense size, my aunt even commented that the authorities might mistaken the Gerbera Straight as weaponry if I ever bring it out for a walk at my neighbourhood… XD

The Beam Rifle features a mini retractable piece that allows it to dock with Red Frame’s rear skirt, similar to the very same gimmick featured on various MGs…

Red Frame comes with an extruded thingie on both of its palms, allowing it to hold its weapons in place, this is especially true to the design of its weaponry. The Beam Rifle has a mounting hole on its handle, which unfortunately is meant for right-handed use… As you can see from most of my action poses, I prefer my mecha left-handed because I’m a lefty… XD

The upper chamber can be lifted apart to reveal a detailed mechanics of the Rifle…

Here lies the generic Orb Union’s Tower Shield, tho rarely used by Red Frame in the manga series.

Unlike its smaller cousin, this Tower Shield features adjustable handle and arm docker… I’ve always admire the design of SEED universe’s Tower Shield which actually doubles up as a deadly close combat weaponry with its sharp, pointy edges…

The Shield also possesses a shutter hatch, which can be slid upwards to cover the clear windscreen. I’m curious of its actual purpose as most of the Mobile Suits in SEED universe use their shield mainly to protect themselves from incoming fire and occasionally as a blunt weapon, clearly neglecting the usage of this windscreen…

The lesser Tower Shield clearly lacks the adjustability of its older brother…

Red Frame wielding the Beam Rifle and the Tower Shield, at various angles…

Some actions with its toys… ^_^ Guns and Shields are more suitable to Blue Frame than Red Frame… >,<

Now the main treat…

Trying to replicate the pose from a desktop wallpaper, unfortunately there is a certain difficulty on pulling off this kinda stunt…

I saw this pose in Dengeki Hobby May issue, and was successfully duplicated this advanced stance by pulling off the Iron-Man Ground Pound from earlier experience… -_-

May 1st falls on this Friday, it’s Labour’s Day and I’ve got a day off. Therefore the review of the Special Custom Set is next…

Final note, I’m quite amazed at the sheer amount of excess parts left behind from my construction of PG Red Frame… o_0

Red Frame, going out!

Due to immense workload over the last week in which I had to stay overtime to finish the jobs, I was forced to stay off from the assembly of my beloved PG kit for a total of SIX days!!!

The reason for the hiccup was the IT sales event (titled the PC Fair for years now), a quarter-yearly sardine-packed IT related merchandise shopping frenzy which was held over the course of 3 days that ended yesterday, had generated a couple of last minute flyer job that I had to do since the start of last week, thus the unexpected expected overtime nights…

I did visit this event tho, finally bringing an end to my previous disappointing ISP, in which most of us users christened the Shitmyx (Its true name is Streamyx, LOL I applauded the giver of the nickname). I’ve signed up with another service called the P1 W1max, a wireless broadband that runs at least 3 times the speed (Char Aznable!!! XD) of the former for the same price! The down side is the package I took have the bandwidth limit of 20 GBs monthly in which it will slow down to a jog once capped, which I’m sure will be used up before long since I’m quite a heavy traffic offender… >,<

Anyways, the Red Frame is now officially completed with yesterday’s tiring labour, this is perhaps the most engaging GunPla project I’ve ever done, spending well over three weeks after the acquisition early this month and yet haven’t been able to actually finish the whole thing… The armaments will have to wait, tho…

Only managed to finish the other leg left from last week’s assembly… Now let’s have the Red Frame stretching out for a little action… ^_^

Due to its sheer weight and size, posing this behemoth is quite difficult if I do it in whole… So instead I had to resort to splitting Red Frame into two halves and pose the individual halves before fixing them together again for display… o.0 Hope the waist joint can last long over my abusive separations and unions… XD

As stated in earlier reviews, I find the rear thigh armour pieces on the Red Frame a little too obstructive, hindering most of my intended posing ideas as the articulate limitations compelled me to readjust… The front skirts suffered from the same limitations as well, unfortunately…

Praying kneel is possible, but anything beyond that is out of question. As you can see from the piccie, the leg can only bend at max in an approximately V-shaped 125 degrees…

Standing poses are most natural for the Red Frame. Here you have the Touhou Fuhai / Master Asia / Master Gundam (Mobile Fighter G Gundam series) inspired posing… XD

One will have to be innovative as to do an advanced kneeling posing like this incredibly heavy landing gesture made famous by last year’s hit movie the Iron Man.

Bringing in the lesser Red Frame, I’ve took several shots of comparison piccies between the two…

Between the two designs, size apart, I prefer how the lesser’s backpack unfold onto its rear skirt in a nice fit, unlike PG’s protrusive eye sore…

The range of articulations between the two is similar, with the big guy having a slight advantage due to its more natural look…

The oniichan also wins in term of leg splitting of both directions, whereas the otouto can only dream on as it is very stiff at those joints… XD However, the former cannot raise its arms beyond the intended 90 degrees arc, unlike the latter…

Gerbera Straight and the rest of the armaments, as well as the clear parts, will have to wait, probably until this weekend…

As a final gesture, I present to you Red Frame in this Macross Frontier inspired Kiran~! x I’m off to battle (Ranka Lee x Alto “Hime” XD) pose…

One-legged hippy

Took a day off from the assembly on Friday, I resumed the assembly of this PG kit on Saturday and a bulk of Sunday, the only two days that I’m free do my hobby… XDWasn’t able to fulfill my resolution of finishing up the legs in Sunday, tho…

Only managed to finished the pelvic unit, one of the leg’s inner frame and another foot… This detaling on the inner frame of the leg alone consumed almost a bulk of my off-work Sunday… Yeah, finally decided to panel line the inner frame because I will probably display the PG kit with that Special Custom Set of clear armour pieces…

Comparing to its smaller cousin, the leg alone already exceeds the height of the minor Red Frame!

Similar to Strike’s, Red Frame’s pelvic joint has a locking mechanism that can be shifted at will, providing an excellent and realistic posing of the leg unit, a very similar gimmick found on various MGs as well…

However, the grip of the lock is quite loose and often fell out from its intended position…

The side skirt can be split apart to reveal a mounting socket for the Gerbera Straight later on…

Unlike the minor Red Frame, the front and rear skirts of the PG are installed separately, thus they are able to shift around to provide larger area of movement for the leg unit…

Unfortunately, due to the double-layered design of the front skirts, the range of its rotation is limited…

When fully fixed onto the pelvic unit, the upper body has restricted area of movement as its belly armour clashes with the bloated crotch piece, thus moving the upper body front-and-back is not possible at this point…

In order to rectify this problem, the body will have to be raised a bit from its fixed position to clear some room… The opening of the cockpit hatch will only work after this remedy as well…

The inner frame slid apart to reveal a hydraulic piece of bling-bling-ness… Haven’t been able to apply the outer armour pieces yet as the night of Sunday draws near…

Notice how the knee armour pieces change their positions as the knee is bending…

Armour sliding mechanism around the ankle in action…

More armour sliding mechanism… This time on the sides of the ankle…

While the range of movement for the toe is extreme, the overall movements on the whole leg on the other hand is quite limited, due to the many armour pieces that restricted the said movements…

Will probably postpone my assembly until the next weekend, as work starts today… >,<

Wild Arms

After 7+ hours of assembly, spanning across 3 nights on and off, I’ve finally completed Red Frame’s arms…

The ever versatile hand unit, introduced 4 years ago during the launch of PG Strike… Moulded in a single connected piece, Bandai saved GunPla modelers, veterans and newcomers alike, the time of fixing all those miniature finger parts together, similar to the older PG kits…

As expected from a PG kit, the poseability of the fingers is unimaginable, but cursed with flaws as well… The ball joint between the fingers and the palm are quite fragile as two of my Red Frame’s fingers, one from each hand unit, fell out from their socket when I play around with the fingers… Luckily, the fingers can be slotted back to the sockets… whew…

There’s an extruded connector to hold onto the weaponries used by the Red Frame, much like those on recent Master Grade’s hand units.

The arm itself looks quite fortified when compared to its 1/100 version…

Due to the thickness of the inner frame (Armour, more like… >,<), the range of movements around the arm is quite limited. However, the design closely resembles that of the anatomy of a human’s arm, which clearly indicates that one’s arm cannot be bend 180 degrees in full…

True enough, Red Frame’s arm can only be bending at around 135 degrees at maximum…

The joint at the elbow allows a slight rotation of the forearm, as you can see in the quad of piccies above… The same gimmick is found on PG Strike as well…

The armour piece above the elbow slid apart as the arm is bending… Bandai always love to include these kinds of gimmicks on MGs and PGs… -_-

There’s a slight bending capability around the forearm as well… However, in true human anatomy, you cannot bend your forearm like that or it’ll hurt like hell… XD

The armour piece at the elbow can be slid outward to reveal a connecting socket for mounting Red Frame’s personal Tower Shield…

Wild arms in action… XD The first pose looks eerily like some old Russian propaganda poster of an arm holding the sickle… :P

And so the upper body is now completed…

My cousin commented that PG Red Frame really does look quite bulky (when compare to the 1/100 version), I was thinking of “The Incredible Red Hulk” when he said that… :D

Weekend draws near, moving on to the pelvis and hopefully the legs next…

Astray Manga: PG Edition

Working day again… sigh…

I’ve scanned the special manga by Tokita Kouichi sensei, which is included with the PG kit… Bandai is generous enough to provide English translation to the dialogues within the manga, located just underneath each of the pages… ^_^

The manga felt like a doujin, with its story set just after the Destiny Astray manga and before the events in the Stargazer OVA… LOL @ the 4-koma, with Kisato holding the red Armour Schneider, as well as the Professor’s PG… XD

Just clickkie on the images to view the pages, or you can head directly to here for direct access… ^_^

Remember… A Japanese manga is meant to be read from up-down-right-left priority sequence…
